AES Solar are looking to utilise a government scheme designed to provide work placements for young people looking for work.
The Kickstart Scheme allows companies, such as AES Solar to access a large pool of young people with potential, ready for an opportunity as we come out of the pandemic. AES Solar have already utilised the scheme to fill two manufacturing and warehouse positions, with hopes to utilise the scheme further in the near future.
The role of Manufacturing and Warehousing Assistant was filled by Forres local Lee MacDonald. Lee started the with AES Solar in April. Working 25 hours a week on a 6 month contract, Lee excelled during his probationary period. He has since been provided full time hours for the remainder of his contract.
During this time Lee will develop a range of skills and work experience. He will also be provided with training including site safety and forklift training. As a result, he will have the opportunity to gain his forklift licence.

A Brighter Future
AES Solar have a long standing reputation of providing jobs in the local area. We have been long supporters of graduate and student placement programmes having supported multiple Modern Apprenticeships, ScotGrad Placements and a Graduate Apprenticeship in recent years. A high percentage of AES Solar staff have come through these development opportunities and continue to work for the company.
AES Solar Operations Director Josh King said: “Supporting these programmes has always been important to AES Solar, though gains new prominence in 2021. We were very fortunate to grow in size despite the pandemic, and as a result felt inspired to give back. We are dedicated to creating decent work and providing young people with these invaluable opportunities and the Kickstart Scheme is another fantastic chance to invest back into the local workforce.”
Following the success of Lee’s Kickstart scheme, we will be looking to advertise for more positions. These including further roles in the workshop, sales and office administration. Watch this space!
