Science Tent Spectacular Returns for Grant Park 100!

AES Solar’s Interactive Science Tent Spectacular Returns for a Day of Sun-Powered Fun and Learning!

After a six-year hiatus, our Science Tent spectacular returns as part of the Grant Park 100 celebrations. This special event commemorates the 100th anniversary of Grant Park being gifted to the town of Forres, and we’re excited to showcase the power of the sun to our visitors in a fun and educational way!

A Centennial Celebration

Grant Park in Forres was gifted to the people of the town 100 years ago, by Sir Alexander Grant, known for his generosity, but possibly more so as the inventor of the world-famous digestive biscuit! Regarded as the ‘beating heart’ of Forres and the surrounding area, Grant Park provides a stunning natural amphitheatre to host a fun-filled day out for all the family.

Grant Park 100 will be packed with events that honour the town’s rich heritage, exploring both the past and present uses of the park. With two arenas, a music area, a carousel, a funfair, and a wide range of “Have-a-Go” activities and stalls, there will be something for everyone to enjoy throughout the day. A programme detailing the event in more detail is available here. As part of these “Have-a-Go” activities, AES Solar science tent spectacular returns in collaboration with our friends at T-Exchange.

Interactive Activities for All Ages

The T-Exchange are a group based in Findhorn, that combines creative thinking, practical skills and technology to make innovative objects and devices. One of the highlights will be the return of their famous Mars Rover model, equipped with an onboard TV camera that streams live footage to a screen in the tent. Lucky visitors from the crowd will even have the chance to control the Rover themselves! A DNA science modelling activity will also be on offer. Participants will be able to build a random sequence of DNA which can be used to generate a model butterfly on screen. Each unique butterfly with varying geometry, sizes and colours can then be 3D printed and taken home to decorate!

Harnessing the Sun: Solar-powered fun for all ages!

As part of our own offerings, visitors will have the opportunity to build and race their own solar-powered cars on our solar panel drag race. Aspiring artists will also have the chance to create artwork from the power of the sun, using sun-sensitive paper coated with light-sensitive chemicals to create some amazing prints, linking art with science! Children can also learn about the history of the sundial and design and decorate their own to take home to help with learning and telling the time. With a variety of arts, crafts, and colouring activities on offer, there’s something to capture the imagination of everyone.

We’ll also have a range of solar-powered gadgets and toys on display so children can learn about the real-life power of the sun and how we can utilise solar power to run our homes on clean, renewable energy to help save the planet!

Inspiring the Next Generation

At AES Solar, supporting local events and giving back to the community is a core part of our mission. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is fundamental to our value of ‘Harness Positivity’ as we strive to make a positive impact by spreading light and joy. As a local business, we are committed to contributing to these events, creating experiences that are both enjoyable and educational, while also highlighting the incredible power of solar energy. We are passionate about inspiring the next generation of solar pioneers by fostering interest in STEM subjects and renewable energy.

Commitment to Community

Our Science Tent first made its debut at “Piping at Forres” or the European Pipe Band Championships in 2017, which previously held the accolade of the region’s largest one-day event! Wanting to offer more than just a simple stall, we teamed up with organisations such as the T-Exchange, Falconer Museum and Aberdeen Science Centre to create an engaging and interactive experience. The success of that event led us to book an even larger tent in 2018, and now, our science tent spectacular returns in this new exciting format for Grant Park 100!

AES Solar’s Science Tent Spectacular Returns

AES Solar’s Marketing Manager, Hannah Jakobsen, expressed her excitement, saying:

“We are delighted to bring back the Science Tent for Grant Park 100. It’s a true honour to be part of this event. As someone who joined AES Solar in 2019, this is my first time organising such an event. It’s been a learning experience, but a highly enjoyable one at that. We’ve ensured there are plenty of hands-on activities to entertain everyone and the response has been absolutely fantastic. We’re also excited to welcome back T-Exchange, as their collaboration has always been key to the event’s success.”

Grant Park 100 will take place at Grant Park on 24th August. You can purchase your tickets here. We look forward to seeing you there!
