The Queen’s Scottish Solar Panels

An opportune meeting in the Isles of Scilly for AES Solar’s Managing Director George led to the Queen’s Scottish solar panels. George was in St Agnes to attend a party to celebrate the success of his daughter’s business, Little Island Chocolate. The function was also attended by the Queen and George seized the opportunity to have a chat.

In the short twenty seconds that the Queen spoke to George, he managed to mention where he was from and what he did as a solar panel manufacturer. As she walked away she turned around and said: ‘Maybe I should have solar panels at Balmoral’. Not one to miss out on an opportunity like that, George followed up in writing. After all, you don’t just slip the Queen your business card!

By return post, George was invited to Balmoral four years ago. A site survey was carried out to measure up and see what we could do for them. The Queen was not residing in Balmoral at the time, otherwise, we are sure we would have been invited for tea. As a result, we installed two of our solar thermal collectors, the AES Luminary, at the royal estate. You can read our Balmoral case study here. Looking to the future, we have been asked back to carry out even more work at Balmoral. We have our sights on the Castle itself!

With a spotlight on George following his Lifetime Achievement Award the Balmoral Story was published in the local press and the news travelled fast nationwide.
